Our top priority is the health and safety of our students and the safety and well-being of our host communities around the world.  OSU suspended all non-essential international travel in March, and this OSU policy remains in effect.  To minimize academic and financial impacts on students and provide as much time as possible for them to identify alternative plans, OSU GO has suspended all in-person education abroad programs administered by our office through fall 2020.  This decision is based on the following considerations:

  • OSU International Travel Policy and the current suspension of all non-essential travel with an unknown expiration date;
  • Uncertainty of a COVID-19 outbreak later this year (compounded by flu season). Although OSU GO has the capacity and expertise to prepare students, assess safety conditions, and respond appropriately during a pandemic, the individual and institutional implications of a mid-program mandatory recall are significant.
  • International and regional travel restrictions, including quarantine requirements upon arrival.

While this was difficult a difficult decision, we hope this decision provides some certainty as students move forward with plans for fall term.  It is our intention to do our utmost to continue serving our students and colleagues as we remain hopeful that travel might resume in 2021.

  • We invite you to explore program opportunities on our website for winter term 2021 and beyond. OSU GO will continue to monitor the viability of future education abroad programs and will notify students of any program suspensions as early as possible.

To help you avoid any academic or financial repercussions, OSU GO aims to notify you if your program will be offered or not within 60 – 90 days in advance of your program start date.  We recommend that you do not purchase airfare or make other nonrefundable travel arrangements until your program coordinator has confirmed to you that your program will be offered.

For faculty-led programs: if OSU suspends your program due to COVID-19, the participant fee, OSU GO administrative fee, and OSU GO application fee will be refunded.

For OSU exchange programs: if OSU suspends your exchange program due to COVID-19, the OSU GO administrative fee and OSU GO application fee will be refunded.

For IE3 Global programs: if OSU suspends your IE3 Global program (study abroad or internship) due to COVID-19, the IE3 Global application fee and deposit (if applicable) will be refunded.

For OSU partner programs: if your study abroad provider (e.g. API, CIEE, IFSA-Butler, etc.) suspends your program due to COVID-19, consult with your program contact to determine their refund policy.  The OSU GO administrative fee and application fee will be refunded.
