The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), first introduced in 2000, was developed as a measure of students' engagement in high impact educational practices. NSSE annually collects information at hundreds of four-year colleges and universities about first-year and senior students’ participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. OSU participated for the first time in 2002 and has since participated nine times.

The NSSE surveys help participating institutions to use their data to identify aspects of the undergraduate experience inside and outside the classroom that can be improved through changes in policies and practices more consistent with good practices in undergraduate education. This information is also used by prospective college students, their parents, college counselors, academic advisors, institutional research officers, and researchers to learn more about how students spend their time at different colleges and universities and what they gain from their experiences. The NSSE is based from Indiana University.

NSSE Dashboard

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) results for OSU Corvallis and Cascades campuses are available in a CORE Report Dashboard. The NSSE survey asks first year and senior undergraduate students about their engagement in programs and activities. Dashboards present results for the 2021 and 2019 surveys. The NSSE dashboard can be accessed in CORE (report ID SSM0114).

NSSE 2021

OSU participated in NSSE again in 2021. All first time, full-time, Freshmen students, and spring graduation candidates received an email inviting them to take the short NSSE survey. Several efforts were used to encourage students to participate, including faculty and staff sharing how findings help OSU learn more about our students’ educational experiences.
