Each student can submit only one application.

Undergraduate Eligibility:

The program is open to first and second year undergraduates, and transfer students in their first year at OSU.

Undergraduates across all campuses/disciplines/colleges/schools/majors at OSU are eligible. 

Participation by a diverse group of undergraduates with a variety of abilities is encouraged.

Undergraduates that have received an URSA-Engage award in the past are not eligible.

Projects for which URISC funds have been received are not eligible.

No prior experience is required.

 

 

Application Process for Undergraduates

  1. Review the Mentor Summaries 
  2. Approach mentors whose research is of interest and discuss potential projects in person or via email.
  3. Register for, and attend, one or both of the URSA Engage Information Workshops.
  4. Once you and a mentor agree on a project, fill the Mentor Approval Form and get it signed by the mentor.
  5. Name the signed Mentor Approval Form as follows: StudentlastnameFirstinitial-Mentor Approval Form. Example: SmithR-Mentor Approval Form
  6. Submit the online Application Form in which the signed Mentor Approval Form will need to be uploaded.

Information sought on the online Application Form :

Contact Information - Name, OSU ID, phone number, major, status at OSU (first year, second year, transfer student)

Mentor Name and Email - Please ensure that the email address listed is correct

URSA Engage Awardee Requirements:

  • Awardees are expected to engage in URSA Engage projects for ~5 hours a week, for 15 weeks from the middle of Winter 2017 to the end of Spring 2017.
  • Awardees have to submit a written report which includes details of their engagement in the research/creative activity, and impacts of the mentoring relationship on their undergraduate experience. Deadline for submission of URSA Engage reports: October 10, 2017

Workshop Agenda:

5:00 PM to 5:30 PM: The 2016-2017 URSA-Engage program will be described, and information provided on how applicants can seek and approach mentors, and develop a successful application. 

5:30 PM to 6:00 PM: Mentors will present their research, and examples of potential projects.

6:00 PM to 6:30 PM: Undergraduates and mentors can meet, discuss potential projects and exchange contact information.
